My CorozagiV2

Update 3/23/09 - see end of post.

My first prototype of corozagi can be consider successful although im doing kfm2 the wrong way. so, as for this V2 im planning on using kfm4 for its airfoil. which is reviewed to have much lift with speed in mind. but as the build needs more coro, im expecting for some additional weight.







there for i'll using apex 2000kv instead of 2500kv in my v1. my point is to have a simple build yet economic for somebody who would like to have the feel to control a flying wing. heres some of the picture of building process of V2. i skip some info which is the same as v1. so im sorry to give you the trouble browsing back and forth for infos. i would like to save time. hope you dont mind.

im still using the same tamplate as my v1. but for this build i include the elevons using the coro so i can use coro hinges (refer here). it costs me 2 piece of 30"x20" coro just for the wing.





hinges ready and wing taped togather. i decided to embeded the carbon spar for more clean build. those tapes? refer my v1  for info.







as for the kfm doubler, i manage to fit it into 1 piece of 30"x20" coro. making total coro used 3. this time i do it right. as it mention, kfm4 will cover 50% of the wing chord including elevons. those books used as weights while waiting for the ca to set. gotta trimmed some of the tip chord to make it level for winglets. see those leading edge, thats sure helps in speed.

update 2/11/09 :

find some times today to finish my corozagi v2. heres some picture to tell what happens.

top view after nose doubler fixed. i made some mod to this doubler from v1.

bottom view. yellow color to give some contrast to the wing for orientation.

hehehehe ... cap on !!! canopy design taken from SLiZE by Mr Ali the winglet as well (if can be seen from the picture). make the design look neat from outside. hope it works on the air.

heres another view of it. the drawing i made freehand, just for fun. no artistic value what so ever.

my CoroZagi V2 is ready for maiden flight this weekend (might be any given evening before that).

i wonder if i could find any improvement with this design compared to V1 as it weight more. with the same wing span thats mean higher wing loading. i hope the kfm4 airfoil helps.

update 2/15/09:

yesterday i manage to bring her to bmnf for its maiden flight. luckly other members of bmnf (edy, mr ali n mbzul) brought their SLiZE combat wing as well. bmnf field stormed by flying wings. overall flight, i manage to test her thru all possible maneuver that i could think of. even crashing onto a pavement.

i got a nice flight of her on the first flight, until i got into a problem with my rx. my v2 dive in frm 10ft height onto a pavement. postmortem - just some wringkle to my v2. other than that got to replace my rx. i rip one off from my 20" sukhoi which i totally gounded beforehand (already planning on 26"). after a quick swap, she's flying again.

compared to my v1 :
  • no more wing flutter in high speed.
  • experiencing flutter on elevons in high speed. forgot to put some skewers into my coro elevons.
  • + about 100g.
  • more speed with kfm4 but steeper stall speed.

compared to my late corowing (back mounted motor) :
  • more control in low speed.
  • i can do harrier.
  • very sharp turn (both low n high speed).

more than that, i will let u guy see for ur self in my coming vid.




update 2/16/09:

i manage to finish the vid last night and uploaded it this morning. but to my dissapointment, most my captured vid of my v2 flying spoiled by my camera. it seems that it receiving to much light and my v2 blends with the sky. this vid is a compilation of flights that i took. just wanna share what this baby can do and proving my expectation in its design. enjoy.

What if i grow rudder onto my CoroZagi?

i've made some thinking after seeing this one particular video about a kfm depron flying wing made by lead2feather called firefly. as my corozagi, this flying wing is using mid mounted motor as well.

i now know my coro zagi can maneuver in slow flight. but it still cant hover steadily. maybe if i fix a rudder it might give some control over yaw. it is simple on paper. well, have to make some thinking over it. wether double rudder at the winglet / separate vertical stabilizer for rudder in the center. let just wait n see ... i'll make my corozagi hovers like 3d foamy plane.




update 2/26/09:

this couple of weeks seems like my low time. cant use my brain correctly :). it seems i still cant figure out how to fix a rudder onto my corozagiv2. most of the problems come from my decission not to build a new wing. i keep trying to figure out to fix it on my current corozagiv2.

my plan is to fix a vertical stabilizer/rudder as i mark below on the underbelly of my wing. why not on top? it seems that i dont have enough space on top to mount the stabilizer firmly.




before i can figure out how big it gonna be, i still have to figure out how i should mount it there. one thing for sure, it got to have a clearance for the prop. making the height no less then 4". then comes the landing problem.

i have to say that i conclude this gonna take a little longer to come true. have to wait for my brain to reboot :). i'll appricieate any suggestion from u guys.

Update : 3/20/09 - status continued ...

after some thinking n discussion (thank to Mr Sulaiman n Mr Ali - BMNF), i modified my CoroZagiV2 to incoorporate a rudder for slow flight stability. This is what i came out with. A Dave Powers style rudder. Detachable rudder at the back of the prop.





I've prepared 3 sets of rudder to see which is the best for slow flight control. here's how the rudder attach to servo. servo horn glue to rudder using epoxy/hotglue.



here's the servo mount. i just mounted it at the back of the prop using a plywood plate n hotglue. hope it will hold the servo stong enough.




i wish the weather permiting for test flight this weekend. Planning to make 4 slow flight passes.

- without rudder and three rudder of different size n shape.

till then we just wait n see.




update 3/23/09:

here's my test flight vid. love to fly it with the rudder on. i can make a slow turn just by using the rudder. and it controls batter on slow flight. it seems that using bigger surface makes the rudder much more effective.
